STORAGE CONTAINER FOR GERMAN 105MM CANNON ROUND, U-BOAT ATTRIBUTED
Last Updated on Thursday, 24 November 2011 10:38 Written by External Post Thursday, 24 November 2011 10:38
Reinforced sheet metal container with quick twist cap and handle. Designed to carry 105mm artillery rounds used in the deck guns of the German Type I, IX and X U-Boats. Marked 10,5 cm and dated “42″. By the middle of 1943 most of the U-Boats had their deck guns removed to improve sailing characteristics, and because the weapons had become obsolete due to increasing threats from sonar and spotter planes. Definitely shows use. At 44 inches long, a very impressive piece of naval ordnance history.
