Snuff Bottle Collection Auctioned at Bonhams

Fine Snuff Bottles From The Collection of Margaret Polak came on the block, on March 24 . Consisting of over 100 bottles the highly anticipated auction totaled $911,005 and was remarkably 98% sold by value.

The top lot was a Suzhou agate bottle which brought $42,700 (pictured, above), soaring above its estimate of $6,000-8,000. An unusual blue overlay glass bottle more than tripled its estimate of $6,000-10,000, fetching $36,600. Also far exceeding expectations was an inside-painted glass portrait snuff bottle that fetched $36,600 against an estimate of $3,000-5,000.

Other top lots from the sale include a carved yellow jade bottle (est. $4,000-5,000) which brought $30,500; a white jade double gourd bottle (est. $3,000-5,000) which fetched $21,960; and a white overlay blue glass bottle (est. $3,000-5,000) which achieved $19,520.
